Well, if it sounds good and behaves like the rare red original unit, then why not? The pedal models have to be 100% convincing. It could be possible with today's DSP power.
Yes, but (but) ... the allure of the SP-1 is the rarity? The effect itself isn't terribly interesting. Same for the SG-1.
Ah, I see your point now. The sound of the SP-1 may not be "terribly interesting", but at the same time it cannot be mimicked too easily. For example you cannot do that with a BOSS GE-7 and even not with the PQ-4. Having this special sound (and that of the SG-1) in this strange looking pedal is not the worst thing.

At YouTube my demo videos of the SP-1 and SG-1 regularly receive comments of disappointed viewers. Especially the SG-1 is often regarded as an expensive doorstopper while they say that the SP-1 was a banal EQ. Well, folks, it is not.

Nothing will convince me the PX-1 is something I want. Likely I'll be hard pressed to think it is a "good" pedal at all.

This one seems to have had a, well, mixed reception  but did anyone ever pick one up?

The three additional effects they promised at launch (DM-2, OD-2, DC-2) are now available for purchase and they've announced three more for release in May:
  • CS-2 Compression Sustainer
  • PW-2 Power Driver
  • XT-2 Xtortion

Strange choices. Although I really like the XT-2 as a lo-fi machine.

I thought they were a bit of an odd choice too. I've never tried an XT-2 but I've got a PW-2 and have played a CS-2. Had a quick look on eBay and the asking price for PW-2s and XT-2s is higher than I would have thought so maybe this might entice some people to pick up a PX-1?

Edit: just remembered it was a CS-3 I had a mess about with, not a CS-2. I do have a Mooer Blue Comp, which is supposed to be a clone of a CS-1 or CS-2 IIRC, although it can't be a perfect clone of either given the controls.

I did pick one up and I wasn’t expecting much. But, it actually sounds pretty good to me.

I’ve been using it for two things.

(1) for rehearsals - I feel much happier taking this along rather than one of my original pedals. Our rehearsal studio is not in the safest of locations and also, the vintage pedals are a real no no for gigs.

(2) for experimenting with pedal chains / pedal order. Useful for placing anywhere in the chain to audition any of the digital models to see how they sound (also avoids a lot of plugging and unplugging !).

If anyone has any questions about this one, please fire way and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I suppose the most obvious question is how close to the original pedals do you think it sounds?

I finally played one. Thought the OD1 model was not as bright/present as the original.

Good point BearBoy. I’ll have a play around and see how it compares to the originals. It will take a while to fit it in with other things going on but let’s see how it goes.

For testing I’ll use a Roland JC-40 so that I can see how the stereo models compare too.

Also, wondering if I should post this photo on Instagram, mention this testing and see what interest in generates. I could put a link in my bio to this forum too but how do we feel about that? I’ve currently got about 2,600 followers on there so it might generate some more members here. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.
