I created this when I was thinking about a HM-2 clone. The HM-2 uses "G taper" potentiometers for the two tone controls, and G taper pots are impossible to get.
If you use a 50k linear pot and a pair of 12k resistors you can fake the 10k G taper pot needed for a HM-2:

By adjusting values, this also works if you want to fake a "W taper" pot.

Ah, that's the reason why the gain knob shows that special behaviour? Why didn't they just use a linear potentiometer?
