A virus on a world tour ... >_<

These are crazy times, my friends!

Schools and dayscare facilities are closed in Germany. The shelves in the shops are empty, toilet paper is rare as well as flour, yeast, all kinds of bread and cans. We're told to stay away from our elderly relatives. People in several countries have to stay at home (this might very well be the case in Germany as well in the next few days). And from now on the playgrounds are closed as well. What am I going to do with my three kids during the next five weeks?! :|

What's the situation in your area and how do you deal with it?

First, I hope everyone is doing well and will continue to be healthy and safe.

Pepe - 5 weeks for kids is long time. Keep their minds active, maybe they can learn how to play your instruments.

As for my location; We had some of America's first cases in my local area. Unfortunatly my local hospitals have all had/have patients which
concerns those of us who are avoiding infection but may need medical help. My local hospital was contaminated by a sick healthcare worker, which complicates this situation.

Panic buying happened here MUCH sooner than the rest of the country. Once our Government began contemplating strict measures, a second wave of panic buying swept through. Major cities like San Francisco have already begun quarantine style controls. I expect to see those in other hot-spots, even here.

On the bright side I'm hopeful safety protocols soon being used will slow/stop this virus. America will modelling it's response to the method South Korea is using. South Korea has reduced the rate of infection and soon America will be implementing similiar tactics. Once a clear, effective, and humane method is proven, hopefully every country will do so.

If anyone has any helpful tips to share it would be appreciated.

Many of us will be facing some sort of quarantine so finding food after panic buying has happened can be difficult; check places people may not think of normally, such as buying food at gas stations, convenient stores, liquor stores.
Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Menards, ect (construction/ building supplies) sells random food, like cereal (I have no idea why) but it helps.
Foreign food markets tend to have different supply chains, check their markets for any additional food they may not use as often as your culture does.
Masks, I think most places in the world are low on stock. A scarf is better than nothing, hope it's winter where you live. If anybody can modify a Boss pedal into a mask/respirator let me know.

The situation varies a lot from province to province here in Canada, but I must say our PROVINCIAL Premier Mr. François Legault is doing a great job at communicating the measures and actually shutting gatherings and all BEFORE it all goes south (Our Federal Premier, Mr. Justin Trudeau..... Different story). He closed up the province BEFORE it went bad and I think is really going to help us get through it. There was a wind of panic last Friday where toilet paper (go figure!), bread and flour went missing from shelves but it really only lasted 3 days. Shelves are full now and nobody's buying anything because the crazy boomers have already stocked up for a year haha. The only thing still missing is Wipes and Purell, although I believe it comes from the worldwide shortage more than just panic buying locally.

Schools have been closed and all shows, sporting events, etc. were cancelled when there was about 14 cases in Québec. We are up to 50 now in a week or so, but no deaths yet (Canada as a whole is at 439 cases, 4 deaths, ALL in the same old folks' home in British Columbia). We have been seeing the first few "recovery" cases so it's already going in the right direction.

We are not in forced Quarantine yet like Italy or Spain, but most people elect to stay home regardless, as most of us have kids that are out of school and need to be taken care of. Streets are almost desert. Anyone with symptoms is off from work for 14 days with provincial government financial help.

I can see the numbers going up again for sure, but the fact we've taken early precautions and practiced social distancing BEFORE we were hit will probably "flatten the curve" a lot in Québec. We have had the opportunity to see what's happening when the crisis is taken lightly and I believe we are doing the right thing to learn from the lessons to be learned from what's happening on the Old Continent.

I certainly hope Québec will stand as an example for the rest of the countries that can still brag that "it's not that bad and people are panicking for nothing".

It is that bad and people are 100% right to take every precaution.

I hope that in the end we could benefit from some positive side-effects. Maybe the large-scale quarantine situation will keep the number of any other diseases lower than usual. Maybe due to the collapse of some industry segments and less tourism the overall air quality will improve. We'll see.

We're already seeing the air quality go up in Mainland China.

Hey guys. Here in Ontario, we've been put in a state of emergency and are limiting our contact with people and closing down lots of businesses.

My wife just lost her serving job at a restaurant that closed down.

I hope you and your loved ones stay well!

Stay strong.

Lots of us in Québec are also in that situation. emergency situation and isolation and all was declared more than a week ago, when there were only 14 cases here. We,re uop to 94 and it's nly going to grow because there are apparently over 3,000 tests that are awaiting for results.

Lots of business closed, limited hours if they,re opened. I am VP of the company I work for and currently looking at possible scenarios that involve putting workers on a leave because everything is so slow. Let me tell you: You cannot make that decision and sleep at night.

At the same time, we're still, to this day, the privileged ones. Iran, Italy Spain, and now Germany seem to be hit really hard... With the USA not too far behind.

Hi guys,
Gasgano that is correct. The sooner the government acts and the harder they act, the much sooner a solution is possible. Many countries are in very alarming situations, We are the fortunate ones. I hope for the best for you, your family, and those at your company. I'm glad the employees have a boss that cares about the individuals and their predicament as well.
Fernieite I am sorry to hear about your wife losing her job. I hope your family the best and appreciate your well wishes for everyone here.
Pepe I do think the world will look at a lot of things differently after this. Just-in-time manufacturing has been getting scolded by almost everyone. Much like people who have lived through famines, I believe this will change how companies and people feel about having extra supplies on hand before it is too late.

My update - Illinois is using the term "shelter in place" instead of a full quarantine. Much like California and New York, people weren't taking the social distancing seriously. We are now VERY limited on what we can do. MANY countries are using the full quarantine method and so far and this seems to be the only hope of a solution for some. I do expect further limits in my state and the country.

One of my all-time favourite musicians is going to do a live concert on facebook later today. It's Southern Rock of its best side. Randall has played with Steve Winwood in the late '80s and early '90s, so this might give you an idea what to expect. Randall is an ace on piano, Hammond and saxophone and his live performances are awesome. It's going to be too late for me to watch it live, but maybe some of you might want to watch it:

Hi all you locked down friends and neighbors! I miss playing and
seeing everyone so much. Hope everyone is safe and six feet from
Corona World. Lenore and I are hanging out here at the house doing
what we can to keep our spirits up in these strangest of days.

Thought it might be fun to do a little house concert here to ease
disconnected feelings. Tune in on my Facebook Page for a Facebook
Live show Tuesday at 8pm Eastern and maybe we can have some
virtual fun together. Hope to see you then.

Take care and be safe.❤️

Randall

If someone had told me a few months ago that a small local butcher shop around the corner would sell toilet paper, paper towels and flour in April, I had said that he urgently needs mental help.
