Faulty CE-2 (LED doesn't light up)

Post by Tnsen » Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:26 am

HI. The light on my Chorus CE-2 did die last day. How do I test it with a multimeter? can anyone tell me? Is there any way I can mess it up if I use the Multimeter wrong? And where can I get an new light for my CE-2 from 86

I'm completely new to fixing things like effects pedals but I've soldered together several microphones and switches for pickguards.

I would suggest to put new solder on the legs of the LED. I'm pretty sure that it could be a cold solder joint only.

Also check the solder of the wires. Good luck!

OK. So something has changed:
  • Either the voltage coming out of the fuel tank has drifted - unlikely, but if you have a meter, please check it.
  • Or the LED has drifted.
Was the LED very dim prior to failing? Or was it full strength?

I like pepe's thought of a solder joint issue, but I've never actually seen that happen on a Boss LED.

Hi L.

I'm new to fixing and soldering effects pedals. I'm not good with a meter either. I had the box up earlier today. I tested and found that if I had the meter on the soldering points of the wires on the contacts (which are 13 and 15) on the circuit board. Then the light turned on out of the power that the meter gave.
The switch also works.

The pedal works and has normal sound.
I have tried it with adapters from Boss, T-Rex and Palmer, perfect sound but no light.

Was the LED very dim prior to failing? Or was it full strength? I can`t tell, Cause it are under the SY-300 :)

If it`s a solder joint issue, will the light come on when the meter give some power to the light?

This test shows that the LED and the wiring going to it is OK. No issues with solder joints.

What adapters exactly - model numbers please.

Are you using the 9VDC output from the fuel tank?
