Nerd facts; Strange battery hole
Nerd facts; Strange battery hole
I have seen many, many Boss pedals in detail but this July 1981 PH-1R has an oval battery "hole", I have never seen this before on any other Boss pedal.
There must of course be more pedals/models that have it, but apparently it must be rarely used.
Any of you seen one like it?
The other photo shows the usual square "hole", from a March 1981 PH-1.

Oh, that looks very nice and tidy! I have never seen those round holes before.
Re: Nerd facts; Strange battery hole
I looked at about 20 pedals this morning and could not find an oval one ! Certainly not the norm.

And another reason for you to expand your vintage collection, eh?

Re: Nerd facts; Strange battery hole
My old DM-2 and BF-2 had battery holes like that, IIRC. Without checking I can't be sure of my old GE-7 - packed away - or my recently bought BF-2, which is at the rehearsal room.
AFAIK, some of my old pedals didn't have a hole for the battery clip; the cables came out at the side of the footswitch.
I'll check and report back.

Had a look at some of my oldest ones. My DM-2, OD-1, PH-1r, CS-2 do not have a battery hole. The battery cables are attached to the footswitch.
My SG-1 has been packed away. As it will take a lot of effort to get to it, I probably won't be able to check any time soon.

If the serial number in the PH-1R at the top is "082900" it is very close to that one of yours. This hole could have been a short-lived standard during that certain period.
Re: Nerd facts; Strange battery hole
I have about 60-70 older-oldest boss compact pedals here including another ph-1r 9 serial (230xxx ish) and no other pedals have that oval hole.
