I have a silver screw BF-2 which I bought from Reverb a few years ago, and is beginning to show its age.

The switch is hit and miss, the signal dies away periodically and it's generally flakey all round.

I cleaned the input/output jacks and have it running at 12v from my power supply (TrueTone 1Spot Pro CS-12) but even so, it's too unreliable to keep on my board.

I'd like to get it back in tip top condition - electrically and mechanically, that is - the battle scars don't bother me at all, but a flakey pedal is no use on a board, so at the moment it's a pale purple paperweight.

Several years ago, Laurie documented how to clean the switch of a BOSS compact pedal. I used these instructions six years ago to clean the unreliable switch of a BOSS TW-1 T Wah. I managed to do it with the switch soldered to the wires. It is quite easy. Here is the thread - I just made it a sticky one in the BOSS pedal section:

I would suggest doing this first, then you might want to resolder all the wire connections to the circuit board and the potentiometers. I would also check if some metal parts of the potentiometers are touching the side of the pedal chassis. This can lead to unreliable or non-working controls, because it makes contact with the ground then.

Thank you for the info but I really don't trust myself to do anything with it. I *was* reasonably competent with a soldering iron, but age and failing eyes have taken their toll. I'd much rather someone else did it.
