GX-10 MIDI to Katana Artist Gen3

Post by Greg_Midi » Fri Feb 13, 2026 7:59 am

I recently bought a new Katana Artist Gen3 combo amp and I'd already been using the GX-10 pedal for several months. I was hoping maybe I could switch presets on the Katana from the GX-10 but it turns out any midi control of the Katana has to come in on the 5 pin port and the GX-10 only has USB3 in/out.
I've since learned that the GX-100 has 5 pin midi but that doesn't help now.

I believe there's a chance I could use a little midi interface like the CME Pro H2MIDI Pro MIDI Interface or Behringer Go MIDI Host Compact MIDI/USB Interface to do it but I wondered if anyone else had been down this path already and could share any experiences.

Welcome to the forum!

That's an interesting question. For decades the DIN 5 MIDI connection was the standard, but today with USB and the small MIDI jacks, problems like these can occur. I don't know if many active users on this board are using MIDI, but maybe someone does and can tell you if you're on the right track with the suggested units.

All of the MIDI capable Boss pedals I have (e.g. RE-202, DM-101, MD-200 etc) use the 3.5mm TRS connectors. They sell a cable that allows you to connect them to devices with 5 pin MIDI connections.

There's a support article on Boss's website that suggests you need to connect the GX-10 to a computer to use MIDI:
The GX-10 does not have DIN-5P or Stereo miniature phone type MIDI ports. To transmit and receive MIDI data with external MIDI devices, connect the GX-10's USB port to a computer and use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to handle the MIDI data transmission. Please use a USB cable that supports data transfer.

Not sure if that's the only way MIDI can be used but might make connecting it to your amp a bit complicated.

I do connect the GX-10 to my PC or MBP when I'm editing/creating patches with the Tone Studio software and that works great. This gives me another idea though, need to see if there's a Tone Studio version for iPad.
