Re: New Non-BOSS Pedals
They are both great pedals, easily meeting the sound quality of his later production pedals
Shaun (Klinger) described the Aztec Chick as a "late 60's Fuzz Face" - its got a definite Mosritey spluttery character on some settings and a ringmoddey sort of feel when I play on the neck p/u and down on the tone knob on my guitar. The AstroClone sounds exactly as it is presented - as a clone of the Astro Tone - its brilliantly clear and sparkly on the lower settings and solidly crunchy as you wind it up
I have become a fan of dirty boosts since I first got Shaun's Astron (AstroTone copy). I've also amassed a Greer Amps Sure Shot and a Jext Telez Buzz Tone copy (by DPE Pedals) in the meantime. The latter two are not Sam Ash type circuits (and certainly don't have the Fairchild glob tops in them) but they meet my criteria for a "dirty boost". My favourite old DOD 250s/FX50s are starting to qualify in that category too, and so probably a Distortion+ (don't have one) but I'd stop short of including my VL Overdrive (or an OCD if I had one) in that category, they are too overdrive-y
This old AstroClone stands up as a dirty boost in its particular compelling way. If it nails the "Cinnamon Girl" riffs (in NY's double drop-D) it is a proper unit I reckon, and this does - thunderously. I haven't put it up against the Klinger Astron yet (which is on my main board atm) but my recollection is that the Astron is a bit darker, we'll see
Both pedals dead quiet with my hands off, which is remarkable. I'll be playing around with these of these a little bit more - I might post some updates as I go

They look like excellent pedals. I'm particularly envious of the graphics

Picked up an EHX Soul Food today, with box, box candy, and EHX 9VDC adapter. USD$38

Nice score, Laurie.
I've got the bass version of that but I don't think it's been out of its box for well over a year. Think I'll dig it out this weekend for a play.

Very good, especially at that price! This is one of the very few EHX pedals that I would like to give a try.

I have never bonded with any Big Muff so far. I wonder if I might like the Russian version.

Re: New Non-BOSS Pedals
I was able to pull some very Gilmourish tones out of it yesterday. Almost identical to the slow lead at the start of "Sorrow" on the Pulse album.
