I was just given one of these by a good friend who was cleaning out his basement...

I haven’t seen one of these for a long time. Does it need much work Laurie?

Mine is the "Silvertone" version. I think the paring of the guitar and the Baldwin amp from the same era might be pretty nice :)
  • No sound out. Will be a basic wiring problem - suspect the jack or the wiring to it has failed.
  • Neck is super straight and flat. Frets need a polish. Surprisingly there is no fret-sprout.
  • The trem arm is missing. I ordered a new Bigsby style one off eBay.
  • Everything else looks to be in good shape.
  • I'm not sure if the case is original, but it is certainly from the period.

Beautiful, those weird looking vintage guitars always reminds me a cartoon tv show I watched in my childhood, The Impossibles.

Full restoration is complete.

Cleaned 40+ years of gunk.
New pickup switches - the old ones were unservicable.
Cleaned the pots. The tone pot may need replacing, will use it for a bit and see if it comes good.
Fret ends filed and frets polished.
Fretboard cleaned and conditioned.
Machines dismantled, repaired, reassembled with new screws.
Doweled stripped screw holes.
Replaced missing trem arm.
Cut-and-polish of the paint to make the blue pop.

It plays OK. The trem system is a bit agricultural so tuning is a problem if you use the trem arm, but nothing too bad. Pickups are HOT. Lots of volume.

It is a very interesting thing to have in the collection and I am very grateful to my mate for giving it to me.
