Re: Closed vs open back cabs
I prefer closed back cabs for the focus and low to low-mid punch.
Open back is nice for unmic'ed gigs where the extra spread around the stage is useful.

Re: Boss OD-1 and its original design
I scored my OD1 for $80 a few years ago. It was clearly an older one and had a silver screw. When I got home and opened it up, it was revealed that it had some version of the 4558 chip. I wish it were the previous version with the 3403. Oh well, it was a great deal anyway! I considered the chip and ...

Re: Vintage Peavey Bandit 112 - thrift shop find
I do love the 80s era Bandits. I have owned around 8 Bandits, Bandit 65, and 90s era Silver Stripe Transtube Bandits. Never paid more than $65 for any of them, and all punched way above their weight class. I would pass them on to a friend who needed an amp and then wait until another came around for...

Re: Boss OD-1 and its original design
The original OD1 used a very different chip--a quad op amp RC3403D. Still had the asymmetric diodes and the expected gnarly tone. This version was more dynamic, amp-ish and had more low end vs the later versions. Later versions went to the JRC4558D or other 4558 chips and some smaller caps that cut ...

Re: Coming Soon to my pedalboard! :) SD-1 Black Label MIT
No worries at all, Lol  Those are some beauts there Bigtone! How far apart are the manufacture dates on those? I think you may have already said but I don’t remember. I’m really interested in the differences in those Green MIJ caps versus the MIT ones. Seeing yours makes me want to secretly bu...

Re: Coming Soon to my pedalboard! :) SD-1 Black Label MIT
The early MIT like this one are really no different from MIJ, in my findings. Some are more rare, like a MIT CE1. Your SD1 looks great! My bad, I meant CE-2! I had an 1989 MIT DS1 that sounded exactly like my early 80s MIJ DS1. Opened them up and they were pretty much the same, you could see some d...

Re: Boss Serial Number Labels
I don't have the hard facts, but I'm sure someone on here does! It seems that the serial numbers migrated out the battery compartment at the very beginning of the MIT era. I have owned MIT with MIJ style battery compartment labels. One early MIT DS1 I had was virtually indistinguishable from my MIJ ...
