Bottom line - at 300mA the 7809 regulator is dissipating 1.5W which is enough to cause a temperature rise that pushes the 7809 into thermal shut-down. I finally decided to sell the Heartbreaker, so ran a bunch of tests on it to make sure everything weas working properly. It has always sounded good, but maybe a bit "thin" in places.
